How could I add to that?

How could I meet a man who looked like that with my own small grievances about anniversaries and dinners?

So I said nothing.

Night after night, I looked at how tired he was and I decided that my hurt could wait, and in deciding that, again and again, I let him carry alone the very thing I most needed to know.

There is a lesson in that, and it took me a long time and a great deal of grief to learn it fully.
