It was the beginning of the hardest chapter of our life together.

It was also, in a strange way I would not have believed that morning, the beginning of the best.

I do not say that lightly, and I do not say it to make a tragedy sound prettier than it was.

The two years that followed were, in many concrete ways, the hardest of my life, and I would give a great deal to have them back, or better yet to have never needed them.

But I have to be honest about what was inside them, because it would be a lie of omission to leave it out.
