Inside were bank statements — every transaction of the last seven years.
Each month my company’s deposit arrived, and within a day or two it was gone again, transferred to accounts belonging to Reem, or Kiran, or my mother.
The notes on the transfers told the whole story: business capital, apartment remodeling, a vacation in Miami, a truck deposit, tuition.
