The clip stamped two o’clock Tuesday afternoon showed Derek alone on the front porch in a bright polo shirt, holding two big black rolling suitcases while a yellow city cab idled at the curb.

The camera’s microphone caught the low hum of the cab’s engine idling in the driveway.

Under the video, the system log showed a twenty-two-dollar fare charged automatically to our joint account.

Behind him in the shot, his mother Patricia stood at the open trunk of her silver sedan in her heavy silver cardigan, while his sister Jenna stood near the driveway looking at her phone.

Officer Bell leaned across the counter to study the log entries stamped along the bottom of the video.
