No one screamed. No one fainted. The room simply became unbearably still as people recognized the voices.
Terrence stood. Sydney turned toward him. “Terrence, please.” He walked forward holding a sealed envelope, no anger in his movements, and handed it to Sydney’s attorney — who had been invited under the impression he’d review a routine family trust matter after the ceremony.
“These are formal notices concerning separation, preservation of records, and independent parentage testing,” Terrence said. “All future communication should go through counsel.”
Sydney looked at the envelope. “You can’t do this here.”
“You planned it here.”
Jason stepped toward me. “I made a mistake.”
