For several days I wanted to call Olivia and ask a hundred questions.

Had Grant told her he loved her?

Did she know about the night I sold my bracelet?

Did she know Brielle’s favorite cereal, or that Parker needed the hall light left on?

I did none of those things.

The answers wouldn’t rebuild what had been broken.

My work was closer to home: answering the children’s questions, protecting their routines, and learning how to trust my own judgment again.
