And on December 24th, the local Chamber of Commerce was scheduled to present Ross with an award naming him an Example of Family Commitment. The donation sponsoring the charity event had come straight out of Corinne’s stolen money.

“He bought a community award to celebrate a lie,” Corinne said.

At a supervised visit the next day, Casey drew a picture: Ross holding a phone, Gwendolyn with her hand raised, and a small black camera hidden on a bookshelf.

“What was your father recording with that camera, sweetie?”

“Me,” the girl whispered. “And you. When you come home.”

She lowered her voice further so the supervisor wouldn’t hear.
