Chapter 18 — Home

Chloe and I reached my parents’ house in Minneapolis late that night.

My mother opened the door, and when she saw the thin red scratch across my cheek, her eyes filled at once — but she did not ask a single question.

She simply opened her arms and folded both of us into them.

“You’re home now, sweetheart.”

My father came out of the kitchen with a wooden spoon still in his hand.

“You’re just in time!
