That someone had seen every single thing I sacrificed, and had counted it, and had loved me for it, and had spent the last of her strength making sure I would be repaid.

To be seen, after so long of being looked through — that was worth more than the estate.

That was the actual inheritance.

I do not think people who have not lived it can fully understand what it does to a person to go unseen for years inside her own home.
