The little silver watch ticked in his vest pocket as he walked toward the hallway.

“Don’t forget the bistro meeting,” he called.

“I won’t.”

“And bring the property folder if you can find it.”

I looked up.

“Why?”

“Mother wants to make sure there aren’t any loose ends.”
