“What new house?”

“I don’t know.”

He looked miserable.

“Mom, I didn’t mean to listen.

He was on the porch talking to someone.”

I squeezed his hand.

“You haven’t done anything wrong by telling me something that worries you.”

He nodded.

Then returned to his workbook.

I carried the groceries to the counter.
