My home and my children’s inheritance were mine.

But the document Eleanor placed before me was not the draft we’d discussed.

On the second page, a paragraph had been crossed out in thick blue ink.

It concerned my house.

More specifically, it concerned the written protections intended to preserve the home for my children if I died.

I looked up.

“You crossed this out.”

Eleanor’s expression remained perfectly calm.

“Oliver is bringing his own assets into the marriage.

We need an arrangement that allows him to manage the household without unnecessary interference.”
