“Not yet. She’s being cautious about the joint account.”

A pause.

Then Eleanor:

“You need the deed before the weekend. The house has equity, and the sister’s trust still has forty thousand dollars.”

Then something worse.

“She thinks we’re putting it all toward the children’s future.”
