Chapter 20 — The People Who Stay

One year after the canceled wedding, Hannah gave a school presentation about family history.

On her display board she placed a photograph of Rebecca, a photo of me in my Army dress uniform, and a third picture of herself sitting between Samantha and me at a summer picnic.

During the questions, a classmate asked whether she ever wished she had a more normal, traditional family.

Hannah looked at her poster, and then over at me, standing in the back of the classroom, and answered.
