Chapter 6 — The Freezer Bag
I got to the drawer of the freezer under the refrigerator and eased it open, and I took a clean plastic freezer bag from the box on the shelf.
“Hold this drawer steady for me, sweetheart,” I told Lucas, and he crawled over and gripped the edge of it with both small hands while I worked.
I carried the blue plate over, and I scraped a good portion of the untouched chicken and rice into the bag — carefully, deliberately, taking from the parts I had not touched with my fork, keeping my own bites off it, because some corner of my mind was already thinking like the people who would test it later.
