My Husband Demanded My $5 Million Lakefront Deed to Save His Failing Company—Then His Mother Shoved Me Down the Stairs and He Served Me Divorce Papers in the Hospital
PART 1 — THE DEED
The property-tax assessment for my grandfather’s Lake Geneva estate sat open on the marble table in the foyer when I came downstairs.
Someone had already sliced the envelope with a kitchen knife.
My husband, Flynn, stood beside the grand staircase holding the three-page statement.
“The county revalued the lakefront acreage,” he said quickly.
“We need to transfer the property into joint ownership before the next quarterly filing.”
I stopped on the third step and twisted the plain silver band around my right thumb.
“Grandfather was clear.”
Flynn looked up.
“The house stays protected under the Vance Family Trust.”
“Your grandfather is dead, Sloan.”
His voice sharpened.
“We’re the ones paying to maintain five million dollars of lakefront property.”
“The trust pays the property taxes.”
“That isn’t the point.”
“It is exactly the point.”
I walked down the remaining steps.
“The house is not available for your company.”
Flynn’s face went still.
