My Husband Demanded I Apologize to His Daughter, So I Walked Out of My Own House
I pulled down the top plastic storage bin and unlatched the lid.
It held old tax returns and college textbooks.
I put the lid back on and shoved it aside.
The second bin held tangled extension cords and half-empty cans of paint.
I pulled out a third box, this one made of heavy corrugated cardboard.
It was sealed tight with clear packing tape across the middle seam.
I took a yellow plastic box cutter from the workbench and sliced through the tape.
Inside were neat stacks of hanging file folders.
