“Did you read the message I sent this morning?” Marisol asked into the phone.

“Yes,” Dorian admitted, after a pause.

“So you knew.”

“Marisol, I knew she thought the electricity bill was getting ridiculous.”

“I pay the electricity bill,” Marisol reminded him.

“I know,” Dorian said.

And those two words changed the entire conversation.

Because Dorian knew that she paid the property taxes, the insurance, the HVAC maintenance, the renovation loan she had taken out before their marriage, and nearly every major repair the house had ever needed.
