Chapter 8 — The Morning Of

On the morning of the wedding, my mother came to pick Kelly up.

And before they left, Wendy looked at me and began, again, to criticize — telling me I was being a terrible sister, that I should be there, that I should support my family.

I did not argue.

I was too exhausted to argue, and too far past the point where anything my mother said could reach me.

I simply watched her take my daughter’s hand and lead her out to the car.
