Chapter 13 — Three Things

She reached into her backpack and pulled out papers, and she laid the truth before that room in three pieces.

The first was the record of the messages between her father and her aunt — the ones in which her father had called her pregnant mother an idiot, and her aunt had made plain that what she cared about was the money.

The second was a bank record showing that her grandmother had taken funds from Kelly’s own college account to help pay for Chloe’s wedding dress, after I refused to fund the celebration of my own family’s destruction.
