Chapter 11 — If You Were Easier to Love

Julian lunged for the folder — snatched at it, quick and graceless.

It wasn’t a blow, but it was aggressive enough that Marcus’s hand shot up and two large security officers stepped in from the entryway, and Julian froze with his fingers an inch from the paper.

“Do not,” I said, quiet and even, “touch my belongings again.” The lobby had gone completely silent; guests at the café tables had turned to watch.

Julian’s teeth clicked shut.
