Chapter 13 — Twelve Days Later

I saw Flynn again twelve days after that, not at the house and not at the hospital, but in a conference room at the headquarters of the company I had built — the glass tower that stood on my land.

I arrived on crutches, with a brace protecting my leg and Phoebe at my side.

Flynn was already there, with Fiona and Arthur, and the change in the three of them was the first thing I noticed and the sweetest thing I would feel all day.

The arrogance was simply gone.

The people who had loomed over me in a foyer were now small and gray and frightened, sitting in a row, and behind them sat three lawyers, which told me they had already understood, at least dimly, how much trouble they were in.
