My Mother-in-Law Took My SUV Keys, and Then My Father Showed Up
My father didn’t step toward the porch steps or shift Noah’s weight off his shoulder.

“I didn’t drop by for a visit, Richard,” my father said, his voice measured and quiet.
“I was driving up Route 9 when I saw Camila walking down the gravel shoulder in the dirt.”
Richard frowned, his eyebrows pulling together as he looked at me.
“Walking on Route 9?”
“She was limping,” my father said.
“She twisted her ankle in the gravel carrying a heavy bag of groceries and your eleven-month-old grandson.”
