Consider her circumstances when she kept those records.

She was gravely ill.

She was starving.

She was isolated, her phone monitored, cut off from every ally in the world.

She was being told, daily, by the people around her, that she was a liar and a burden and a fraud, and she was so worn down and so alone that she had begun, I think, to half-believe she was going to die in that storage room without anyone ever knowing the truth.

And in the middle of all that — in a situation that would have crushed the spirit out of almost anyone — some unbreakable core of her refused to let the truth die with her.
