My Newborn Went Silent Whenever My Husband Took Him—Then the Baby Monitor Revealed What His Mother Had Been Hiding
PART 1 — I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A BAD NIGHT
The bottle was almost warm enough when Daniel lifted the formula scoop and frowned at the container.
“Thirty-four dollars,” he said.
I kept the bottle under the stream of water and watched the last bit of powder disappear.
“It was on sale last week.”
“That does not make it cheap.”
The baby started crying from the bedroom.
Daniel put the scoop down and picked him up before I could turn off the water.
“I’ll handle him,” he said.
“Finish the bottle.”
He carried the baby toward the crib beside our bedroom door.
I dried my hands and followed with the bottle still in my palm.
Daniel lowered the baby into the crib and adjusted the blanket.
“He’s tired,” he said.
The crying stopped.
It stopped so quickly that I looked at Daniel instead of the baby.
He was standing with one hand resting on the crib rail.
“I thought you were just fixing his blanket.”
“I was.”
