“Nobody is asking you to make a decision today.”

“Then why is there a suitcase?”

Linda folded the napkin again, making one edge shorter than the other.

She corrected it and placed it beside Eleanor’s purse.

“Robert can explain when we get there.”

Eleanor could have called him into the kitchen.

Instead, she picked up her purse and walked to the door.

“All right.

But I am not signing anything I have not read.”

“Of course not.”

Outside, my father sat in his car with the engine running.

He got out when he saw Eleanor and opened the rear door.

Linda put the suitcase inside, then added a grocery bag holding Eleanor’s prescription bottles.

“Those could have gone in my purse,” Grandma said.
