The plate in my hand was Arthur’s Sunday plate.

I put it beside the others.

“Did she say whose house it was?”

Lauren looked toward the window again.

“She said Grandpa would have wanted us to keep it in the family.”

The man outside pulled a hand truck from the truck bed.

I looked at the boxes stacked along Arthur’s pantry wall.

“Nobody told me about this.”

Lauren gave a small shrug.

“I thought you knew.”

I did not answer.

I picked up the last unopened box from the counter and carried it toward the study.

Lauren followed me.

“Where are you going?”
