While adults fought over records, my son stopped sleeping.

That mattered more.

He kept a chair beneath his bedroom doorknob.

Would not change clothes in the school locker room.

Stopped drawing.

Would not take his shirt off even at home.

One night I found him sitting on the bathroom floor at two in the morning.
