Detective Rebecca walked in and dropped a thick manila folder on the table.

“We have the bank records from Tuesday,” Rebecca said.

“We have the security video of your mother arriving at the house with an overnight bag.”

Derek sighed loudly and slumped in his chair.

“My mother made all the arrangements for the week.”

“Your mother withdrew nineteen thousand dollars from a joint account?” Rebecca asked.

“Your mother forged an escrow agreement to sell a house she doesn’t own?”

Derek rubbed his wrists where the cuffs had dug into his skin.
