He gained nothing from my vindication and lost nothing from my parents’ conviction.

He was a man who happened to be driving home, who happened to see what he saw, and who told, simply and without stake, exactly what his eyes had shown him.

And there is a particular, unassailable power in the testimony of a person who has nothing to gain, because it cannot be explained away as self-interest, cannot be dismissed as grievance or greed or grudge.

It is just the truth, spoken by someone who has no reason to speak anything else.
