My sister looked at the shoebox.

And I believed him, David, because I believed everything, that’s the entire story of my life from twenty-six to thirty-four.
“And then he was in prison and the truth came out and I opened one, and it was a woman writing to a little boy about a fishing trip she took with his mother in 1998, and asking whether he liked the color blue, because Rebecca liked blue.”
She stopped for a second.
“And I sat on this floor and I understood that I had a shoebox of letters from that child’s grandmother, and I did not call her.
