Brenda looked at my husband through the passenger window and shook her head.

“Do you want me to roll down the window and throw my iced coffee at his expensive coat?”

A small, surprised laugh escaped me despite the misery in my chest.

“Please don’t waste good coffee on him, Brenda.”

Russell tapped gently on my window, waiting until I rolled it down two inches.

“My grandfather and my father will be at the main house within forty minutes, so please drive carefully.”

“I will see you there,” I said, rolling the window back up before he could say another word.
