They did not leave the rest for them.
Wilhelmina portioned the best of the meat out to Ansel and Sorrel, and then the three of them worked through the potatoes and the salad and the bread and nearly all of the dessert, and Odalind sat at the end of the table she had set with her parents’ china and watched an entire afternoon of her work disappear in a matter of minutes, with an empty plate in front of her.
Chapter 4 — The Kitchen
When she finally got up to start clearing the dishes, Ansel followed her into the kitchen.
“Don’t make a scene over this,” he said, low.
“We’ll buy them something tomorrow.”
