Daniel came to the hotel that evening. Security called from the lobby. “He says he is your husband.”
“For three more days,” she answered.
“He says it’s urgent.”
Everything in Evelyn wanted to refuse. Instead, she asked Rebecca to stay in the adjoining room and told security to send him up.
Daniel entered without taking off his coat. He looked older than he had a week earlier — hair uncombed, the skin beneath his eyes gone gray. “You’re enjoying this,” he said.
Evelyn stood by the window. “No.”
