Paint Doesn’t Pay the Mortgage
He saw the curve of the walls. He saw the staircase leading toward the sky, and he remembered every night Evelyn had climbed those stairs while he stayed downstairs, congratulating himself for providing the house.
A museum guard approached. “Powerful, isn’t it?”
Daniel swallowed. “Yes.”
“I heard the artist’s husband thought it was worthless.”
Daniel looked at the canvas. “He was wrong.”
The guard nodded. “Hard thing to live with.”
