Peace Isn’t Silence
I had done the opposite.
For the first time in my daughter’s life, I had given her one.
The banquet was over.
The cowards were gone.
The silence I had mistaken for peace was over.
And in its place, at last, was the real thing, the kind you do not get by staying quiet but build with your own hands after you tear down the walls that kept you in the dark: a small bright house, a fearless little girl, a mother who had finally found her voice, and a home in which no one would ever again be asked to swallow a cruelty to keep a coward comfortable.
Our real life had begun.
And it began, as the best things do, in the light.
