It was the exact same underestimation that had hurt me my whole life, the assumption of my incapacity, turned suddenly into a weapon in my hand, because a fraud can only be caught by someone the fraudster fails to guard against, and my family had spent twenty-eight years training my brother to fail to guard against me.
I want other quiet, overlooked people to understand this, because I think it is a truth the loud world hides from us: that being underestimated is not only a wound.
It is also a kind of invisibility, and invisibility, used well, is power.
They stopped watching me.
And in the space where their attention was not, I built, patiently and unobserved, the thing that would eventually bring them all down.
