Poppy and the Diamond Ring
At one point Poppy stood on a chair and tapped her spoon against a glass.
“I want to say something,” she announced.
The children kept talking.
Their parents smiled indulgently.
“Aunt Evie is here because I found a ring,” Poppy said.
“But Grandma says she was always family, even when nobody knew where she was.
So I think finding stuff is good, but finding people is better.”
I couldn’t speak.
