Warmth and payment.

For two years I had believed they were the same transaction viewed from two sides, and I was only now beginning to understand that a warmth you have to purchase at every single meeting is not warmth at all but rent, paid on a room you were never going to be allowed to own.

This time I did nothing.

Not a cold, dramatic nothing, not a nothing I announced or performed.

Just nothing.
