Renata’s Pink Blanket Led Me Back to the Letter My Parents Buried
I took off my coat and examined the envelope under the light.
The attorney’s name was printed in the upper left corner.
Below it, in smaller letters, was an address I did not recognize.
The seal had not been broken, but the old file number was written by hand beneath it, separate from the return address.
I copied the number onto the back of the grocery receipt.
Then I turned the envelope over and checked the writing once more.
The ink had faded, but the last two digits were clear.
