Gavin had copied me accidentally on a reservation update from a luxury travel agency.

Attached was an invoice that listed airfare upgrades, a private excursion, and an outstanding balance due on a credit line I had not known existed.

I forwarded it to Richard without opening any of Gavin’s private accounts.

The document had been delivered to my own email address, and I kept the original with its metadata.

At our next meeting, Richard asked for the family’s debts as well as its assets.

Gavin had treated the vacation like a reward already paid for.
