Seven months after our divorce, I rushed into St. Jude’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital, still angry at my ex-wife, only to learn that she had just given birth to twin boys, and both of them were mine. Before the night was over, a nurse would place a brass key in my hand and tell me to use it before my own family arrived. And what was waiting for me beyond that was even more shocking.
“Where did you get this accounting evidence?” Margaret pressed carefully.
“Straight from my grandfather’s private charter trust,” I answered steadily.
Another sharp pause followed.
“Don’t send me a single digital file over regular email,” Margaret instructed strictly.
“I have no plans to,” I assured her.
“Meet me in my private executive office at exactly six-thirty this morning,” she ordered.
“I’ll be outside your door at six-thirty,” I promised.
“And Alexander?” she added, her tone softening a little.
