Seven months after our divorce, I rushed into St. Jude’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital, still angry at my ex-wife, only to learn that she had just given birth to twin boys, and both of them were mine. Before the night was over, a nurse would place a brass key in my hand and tell me to use it before my own family arrived. And what was waiting for me beyond that was even more shocking.
I stopped and looked down at her.
“Don’t you dare call them ‘my sons’ in that boardroom as a cheap show to prove what a noble man you are,” she warned sternly.
I met her sharp gaze with complete seriousness.
“I promise I’ll never use our children for corporate posturing,” I assured her.
“Good,” she replied softly.
Nurse Florence quietly rose from her chair and walked toward the door.
“I’ll give you two a few moments alone before the doctors come in,” Florence said gently.
