Seven months after our divorce, I rushed into St. Jude’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital, still angry at my ex-wife, only to learn that she had just given birth to twin boys, and both of them were mine. Before the night was over, a nurse would place a brass key in my hand and tell me to use it before my own family arrived. And what was waiting for me beyond that was even more shocking.
I waited in total silence for her to go on.
Sylvia took a breath and sat up a little straighter in the bed.
“Your father is getting ready to carry out a complete transfer of control over Montgomery Enterprises,” she disclosed.
“Transfer control to whom?” I asked, bewildered.
“To a private international investment group,” she answered plainly.
My mind raced back over the past few months.
I remembered the emergency board meetings I had missed while caught up in the divorce.
I remembered the private phone calls my father had cut short whenever I walked into his office.
