Seven months after our divorce, I rushed into St. Jude’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital, still angry at my ex-wife, only to learn that she had just given birth to twin boys, and both of them were mine. Before the night was over, a nurse would place a brass key in my hand and tell me to use it before my own family arrived. And what was waiting for me beyond that was even more shocking.
I looked down at her with a mix of shock and admiration.
“And you were actively trying to stop him from doing that to me?” I asked softly.
“I did everything I could to stop him,” she said quietly.
“And that’s why he framed you for corporate espionage,” I concluded, the pieces finally coming together.
“He needed to completely destroy my credibility before I could bring the verified audit records to the board,” she explained.
“Why didn’t you just take those records to the board of directors right away?” I asked.
