I walked over and lifted my daughter into my arms, tired now from a long afternoon of building towers and mastering states, and she rested her head against my shoulder with a small contented sigh, her warm breath against my neck.

Arthur came and stood beside us, his hand on my shoulder, and the three of us looked out at the gold going soft into evening.

The path behind us had been broken by feud and grief and years of silence.

But standing on that deck in the fading light, holding the little girl whose life had reached back and pulled us all out of the dark, I understood that our family was, at long last, complete.

There were no more missing pieces.
