The same porch where I’d told my mother I was dead to her, sixteen years before.
She was sitting out on it in a chair, white-haired now, one side of her still held wrong by the stroke, smaller than the giant she’d been in my memory.
But when she turned and saw me climb out of that truck, her eyes were exactly the same.
She tried to push herself up out of the chair.
