Chapter 22 — Packing
I let myself into the apartment that had been my home, and it was quiet and empty, Liam still at his office, and I got to work.
I packed Hazel first, because Hazel was what mattered.
Her clothes, her tiny socks, her toys, the muslin blankets she liked, the bottles, the diapers, all of it, folded and boxed with a care I did not feel for anything else in that apartment.
Then I packed my own essentials, the things I actually needed, into a couple of large suitcases, leaving behind the accumulated furniture and dishes and decorations of a shared life I no longer wanted any part of.
