A black SUV rolled to the curb. The rear door opened before the tires had fully stopped. Leo Moretti stepped into the rain. He wore a charcoal overcoat over a black sweater — tall and broad-shouldered, dark hair pushed away from a face that rarely revealed anything he had not chosen to show.
Pedestrians moved aside without knowing why.
Leo stopped in front of Chloe. His eyes traveled over her pale face, the half-eaten pastry, and her trembling fingers. He did not ask if she was all right.
Leo never asked questions when he already knew the answer.
