Chloe collapsed against the pillow as tears ran into her hair. The nurse wrapped the child in a white blanket. Leo stared at him. The most feared man in New York looked completely defenseless.

“Would you like to hold your son?” the nurse asked.

Leo extended his arms. The baby seemed impossibly small against his chest. His crying softened into breathless hiccups as Leo touched one scarred knuckle to his cheek.

“Dominic,” Leo whispered.

Chloe had not agreed to the name. She had also been secretly thinking of it for two months. “Dominic Bennett Moretti,” she murmured.
